Archaeomagnetism and palaeomagnetism are fascinating specialized studies because both are applicate to or interact with such a wide range of problems in geophysics, geology, palaeoclimatology and archaelogy. Once the geomagnetic field s strength and direction is measured from an ancient pottery or lake sediment sample, use can be made of these measurments, amognst others, for the reconstruction of the field s varations -the secular varation- in the past.
