The approach to the Acropolis follows a landscaped pedestrian route that connects the modern city to the venerated monument. This network, however, is a fairly recent addition to the topography of the archaeological sites that surround the Acropolis. Until nearly a dozen years ago, the Acropolis was surrounded by a ring of busy streets.
