Classical civilazations and modern world

In November 2024, the First World Congress of Classical Studies was successfully held in Beijing, China. It was co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Ministry of Education of China, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the Ministry of Culture of Greece, and the Academy of Athens. The President of China, Xi Jinping, and the then President of Greece, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, sent congratulatory letters to the Congress. Around 400 classical studies scholars from more than 30 countries and regions around the world attended the event. With the central theme ''Classical Civilizations and the Modern World,'' participants engaged in in-depth exchange of views, developed sincere dialogue, and reached broad convergence of opinions, jointly contributing to the revitalization of classical civilizations, highlighting their modern value, and shedding light on humanity''s path toward the future. The holding of the First World Congress sparked a warm response in the international academic circles of classical studies and helped create a new platform for dialogue between classical cultures and the exchange and mutual understanding among the world''s cultures. The Congress Secretariat oversaw the writing and publication of the collective volume titled ''Classical Cultures and the Modern World: Selected Proceedings of the First World Congress of Classical Studies,'' aiming at broader dissemination and promotion of its academic outcomes. The volume includes 47 selected papers from scholars in China and abroad, covering topics such as Western and Chinese classical studies, the reception of classical texts, and comparative approaches. Through classical studies as a bridge for communication, the volume aims to promote deeper understanding and exchange between countries, as well as to enhance dialogue and mutual learning among the world''s cultures.
